- For Adults looking to WAIVE the DMV required 60 days holding period
- For Adults looking to BYPASS taking the final road test at a DMV location
This two (2) part program is for Adults (ages 18 and over) that have a valid Learners Permit (issued by the Virginia DMV) who are looking to WAIVE the DMV required 60 days holding period AND also BYPASS taking the final road test at a DMV location!
How do I know if I qualify for the adult waiver program?
The DMV tells customers about the Adult Waiver after they receive their learner's permit. However, they do not know whether or not you qualify for the program, they only know that it exists.
Please be advised of the following:
- Driver training schools cannot issue an adult waiver to a person who has previously held a driver's license. This includes foreign licenses.
- The student must have a Virginia learner's permit.
- If a person has previously held a license and the license is revoked and they are now required to take the knowledge and road test, that person cannot obtain an adult waiver.
- Out-of-state classroom completion cannot be accepted for an adult waiver.
- If a person attempted the DMV road test three times, that person cannot obtain an adult waiver.
What are the requirements to enroll in behind-the-wheel?
- A Virginia learner's permit
- A Virginia driver's education course certificate
- A minimum of 10 hours of driving experience
If I never completed the driver education course, how can I get a certificate?
If you have never taken the driver's education course, then you can take the course at any DMV-licensed driver training school. The course is available in two (2) formats, in-classroom or online.
Can I take the behind-the-wheel course if I have never driven before?
No. Only a competent or skilled driver will be accepted for enrollment. This class is designed for individuals who have experience driving and want to waive the required 60-day waiting period for holding a learner's permit and bypass the DMV road test. This class is not for new drivers, you should have at least 10 hours of on-the-road driving practice.
An inexperienced driver cannot hide their inexperience. Our instructors have many years of experience teaching new drivers. They will know if you do not have the driving skill experience necessary for the class.
